National Trust thatched property destroyed by fire

Steve Harris

Available for over a year

Over £1600 has been raised in less than 24 hours after fire destroyed a family home at Cowgrove near Pamphill. The blaze at the National Trust thatched cottage on the Kingston Lacey Estate broke out shortly after 2 o'clock on Sunday afternoon. Crews from Wimborne, Ferndown, Blandford and Poole brought the fire under control over the course of the next 3 hours. Initially they tried to salvage some of the contents but the roof collapsed meaning they had to withdraw. The first floor of the property was totally destroyed - the ground floor was significantly damaged. BBC Radio Solent's Steve Harris spoke with Vicky Moore, the chair of a local Parents Teachers Association, who lives in a thatched property at Pamphill herself, and who immediately launched one of the fund-raisers.
