Senegal is using education and drugs to defeat leprosy. Awareness of the symptoms of the disease and early diagnosis can prevent the need for isolation of new cases. As Senegal is beginning to open up its former leper colonies, people are becoming more aware of the impact of the stigma surrounding leprosy on patients and their families.
