"He's absolutely flattened by it" - the family impact of care home visiting restrictions

Breakfast on BBC Radio Sheffield

Available for over a year

Families share their stories of the impact of COVID-19 visiting restrictions in care homes. They include the family of a 91 year-old man who fears he will never see his wife again and a woman whose mum "crumbled" when she realised she wouldn't be able to hold her daughter's hand. These clips are from Toby Foster's BBC Radio Sheffield programme on the 20th August 2020. Homewood Care Home sent us a statement in response to Angela's story. They say families are required to designate one constant visitor, with other loved ones able to keep in touch via phone and video calls. We understand that some families may find this upsetting, but as the virus remains a threat to our communities we have to remain vigilant to mitigate the risk of transmission.
