Episode details

Available for over a year
Beethoven's only quintet for two violins, 2 violas and cello is rich and mellow and comes from around 1801 - a year of great productivity for the thirty year old. The opening is full of excitable energy which carries through into even the slow moment - the work's high point - in this 30-minute composition. This is perhaps the sound of Beethoven at his happiest and most confident. Composer: Ludwig van Beethoven Performers: Elias Quartet Performer: Malin Broman (Viola) Recording date: 29 December 2014 Date of broadcast: 29 December 2014
