This magnificent overture begins with a slow and lyrical introduction before moving into a brilliant, carefree allegro with Italian-sounding joyous music. Despite this being Berlioz's first purely orchestral work, it is remarkably well crafted, foreshadowing the composer's later, greatest heights. Composer: Hector Berlioz Performers: BBC Symphony Orchestra Conductor: Michael Seal Recording date: 05 May 2015
