Chopin's expressive, expansive First Piano Concerto was actually written after his Second, but it was given the title as it was published first. The complex piano part contrasts the harmonically and texturally straightforward orchestral accompaniment. It's a real showcase for the piano, the instrument with which Chopin had the deepest connection throughout his career. The work also featured in the 1998 movie 'The Truman Show', and is frequently performed and recorded. Composer: Frédéric Chopin Performers: BBC Philharmonic Orchestra Performer: Beatrice Rana (Piano) Conductor: Johannes Debus Recording date: 17 June 2016 Date of broadcast: 17 June 2016
