Schubert's final song - published after his death in 1829 is full of tenderness and hope. A lover sends by carrier pigeon a letter to the beloved. The melody flits and soars like a bird and the poem's text shows the perils of the dove's journey. It's difficult to believe this is the work of a dying man.
