Bruckner was a keen organist and a deeply religious man. His symphonies have often been referred to as ‘cathedrals of sound’ – the musical equivalents of huge and beautiful places of worship. The 7th is one of his best and most accessible works, and, with the first and last movements at least, one that finds him in heroic and sunny mood. Composer: Anton Bruckner Performers: BBC Philharmonic Orchestra Conductor: Juanjo Mena Recording date: 15 October 2010 Date of broadcast: 02 November 2011
