Commissioned by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to celebrate its 50th anniversary, Kodaly's 'Concerto for Orchestra' was premiered in 1941. Heavily infused with the dancing folk rhythms of Kodaly's Hungary, the music is intricate and ambitious. Listen for the rich harmonies of brass towards the end of the second movement or the bouncing woodwind at the start of the third movement.
