Originally composed for piano in 1927, Kodály arranged his 'Dances of Marosszek' for full orchestra in 1930. As in much of Kodály's work the inspiration for the dances that make up 'Marosszek' was found in Hungarian and other eastern European folk traditions. These tunes are said to be from historic Transylvania.
