The four last songs 'Procris', 'Tired', 'Hands, Eyes, and Heart', and 'Menelaus' were composed in the final years of Vaughan Williams life, between 1954-1958. The words were taken from poems by his wife Ursula which gives the serene 'Hand Eyes, and Heart' deeper emotional meaning - 'Heart, in his keeping, be at rest and live'.
