Songs of Travel

Experience Classical

Available for over a year

The shadow of the romantic hero and Schubert’s immense 'Die Schöne Mullerin' loom large over 'Songs of Travel', but unlike Schubert, Vaughan Williams made little attempt to weave a narrative thread through his cycle. Instead he incorporated English folk-songs into his melodies to give the work a rustic edge and authentic quality which still resounds to this day. Composer: Ralph Vaughan Williams Performer: Ashley Riches (Baritone) Performer: Anna Tilbrook (Piano) Recording date: 29 March 2017 Date of broadcast: 27 December 2017
