Not many pieces of orchestral music include the bagpipes. Peter Maxwell Davies' 'An Orkney Wedding' portrays the joy and energy of a Scottish wedding so it might seem odd not to have written a part for them. At the end of the work the bagpipes march in depicting the sunrise after a night of celebration.
