The Last Letter

A series of five songs written in 2015 for baritone Benjamin Appl. The words are taken from letters sent to and from soldiers in the First World War. The piano accompaniment for the songs is often nervous; it's a cautious and controlled meandering. The very personal texts of all the songs are made vivid by the rich baritone.
