Jean Sibelius's ability as a violinist never reached the level of virtuosity that he dreamed of as a student in Finland but the 'Humoresques' he composed in 1917 are a great example of his desire to show what the violin was capable of. It proved that his talent in composition made up for his playing skills. The 'Humoresques' were meant to be performed together as a suite but were published with separate opus numbers due to an error. Composer: Jean Sibelius Performer: Alexandra Soumm (Violin) Performer: Aimo Pagin (Piano) Recording date: 06 May 2012 Date of broadcast: 21 June 2012
