Composer and violinist Grazyna Bacewicz's prolific career was interrupted by the outbreak of World War 2 but despite the horror that war brought to Poland she continued to write and perform her work in secret. She wrote 'Piano Quintet No. 1' (her most famous chamber work) in 1952. Listen out for the rapid second section that's based on energetic and feverish Oberek rhythms; a traditional Polish folk dance.
