Symphony No. 3 in C minor compl. Anthony Payne

Experience Classical

Available for over a year

The death of his wife Alice in 1920 had left Elgar distraught. He was unable to compose anything substantial until starting this symphony in 1931. Unfortunately, Elgar died before completing anything more than ideas. What we hear today is Anthony Payne’s elaboration on the sketches Elgar left. Payne has done a fantastic job, giving Elgar’s thoughts a full and final clarity. Composer: Edward Elgar Performers: BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra Conductor: John Wilson Recording date: 27 April 2017 Date of broadcast: 27 April 2017
