Symphony No. 1

Experience Classical

Available for over a year

Composed on his arrival in the USA after fleeing Paris, this symphony displays the great imagination Martinů gave all his orchestral works. His use of rhythm and syncopation, as well as the energy and drive embedded in the music are all evident here. The third movement Largo, a searing representation of grief, is one of the finest movements composed in a 20th Century symphony. Composer: Bohuslav Martinů Performers: BBC Symphony Orchestra Conductor: Jiří Bělohlávek Recording date: 03 October 2009 Date of broadcast: 05 October 2009
