A German Requiem (Ein deutsches Requiem)

Experience Classical

Available for over a year

This Requiem is unusual. It is a sacred work, but does not follow the Latin liturgy. Instead Brahms assembled the words based on the Lutheran bible, to be sung in the German language, thus propelling his requiem to the heart of the emerging German nation. Composer: Johannes Brahms Performers: BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra Conductor: Donald Runnicles Recording date: 13 February 2011 Date of broadcast: 16 February 2011
