Emmanuel Adebayor: 'It was one of the worst experiences of my life'

Sport Today

Available for over a year

Ten years ago, the Togo football team's bus was attacked as they travelled to the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola. A rebel group opened fire on their convoy which resulted in two deaths. The team had become caught up in the political situation in Angola, a country that - back then - had recently emerged from three decades of civil war. On the bus was Emmanuel Adebayor then Togo’s star player, who played for Manchester City in the English Premier League. The BBC’s Matthew Kenyon was in Angola covering the tournament for the BBC and spoke to the striker soon after the attack: WARNING: Includes graphic descriptions of the attack Photo: TV grab of Emmanuel Adebayor following the shooting which killed members of the Tongolese football team in Cabinda, Jan 2010.
