Hockey: Ward upbeat despite freak eye injury

GB Hockey player Sam Ward suffered vision loss which could rule him out of the Olympics. The 28-year-old was struck in the face by the ball during GB's play-off win over Malaysia on 3 November, sustaining a crushed retina and facial fractures, but he's still hopeful of featuring next summer. "I'm an athlete, I work hard, and I never give up," Ward told BBC Radio Berkshire's Jack Winstanley. "I could get plenty of improvement, I could get none, it's just a waiting game. "It's OK not to be OK, because it is a shock. "You've just got to think of the positives and put things into perspective. "I've got a full working body, everything's really working, I've just lost a bit of vision in my left eye. "Why not aspire and keep dreaming and keep working hard on what you do day in, day out?"
