Dorset engineer changing perceptions of her industry

Steve Harris

Available for over a year

Olivia Sweeney, an engineer at Dorset cosmetics company Lush, spoke to BBC Radio Solent about the way people view her as a female engineer. She spoke to Steve Harris, on the Dorset breakfast show, on #ThisIsEngineering Day which aims to broaden perceptions of the profession. Recently, The Royal Academy of Engineering trained an artificial intelligence algorithm to search the internet for images of an engineer. Most of the images were of white men wearing hard hats. She says inside her company the view of her and her role are much better than when she steps outside the workshop.
