6 Songs from 'A Shropshire lad' (vi. Is my team still ploughing?)

Experience Classical

Available for over a year

This song, the last of the ‘Six Songs from A Shropshire Lad’ is a conversation between the ghost of a man killed in battle and his friend, who is still alive. Given that Butterworth was killed in The Battle of the Somme, the song is especially poignant. Voices can be heard coming clearly through the simple accompaniment, like in a normal conversation. Composer: George Butterworth Performer: Ashley Riches (Baritone) Performer: Simon Lepper (Piano) Recording date: 13 July 2017 Date of broadcast: 30 July 2017
