Another work which displays Berlioz's deep affinity with Shakespeare, La Death of Ophelia uses a poem based on the Queen's speech on Ophelia's death from Act 4 of Hamlet. The music reflects the action, with the opening depiction of a gently rippling river being an obvious case in point.
