Porgy and Bess is Gershwin's most famous opera, and is infused with jazz, gospel and blues influences, lush orchestral underscorings and big spiritual chorus numbers. It contains many songs which have become popular jazz and blues covers, including the well-known Summertime. A version for violin and piano was made by the violinist Jascha Heifetz.
