The Barber of Seville (Overture)

Experience Classical

Available for over a year

Rossini's The Barber of Seville is often described as one of the greatest masterpieces of comedy within music, and the overture has proved enduringly popular with audiences for two hundred years. Although lost after the 1816 premiere, Rossini was able to write a new overture based on new ideas combined with some recycled themes from previous operas. For this reason, the overture's music bears no resemblance to that of the rest of the opera. Composer: Gioachino Rossini Performers: BBC Philharmonic Orchestra Conductor: Ben Gernon Recording date: 09 January 2018 Date of broadcast: 09 January 2018
