Redhill flats: mother's call for fire alarms

Breakfast on BBC Radio Surrey

Available for over a year

A mother is calling for fire alarms in communal areas of her block of flats in Redhill after a series of arson attacks. Mia Finney tells BBC Surrey she is worried for her family's safety. Jonathan Higgs, chief executive of Raven Housing Trust, which manages the block, insists it is safer without them as guidelines indicate residents are better staying inside their own fire-resistant flats. One man, arrested on suspicion of arson, has been detained under Section 3 of the Mental Health Act. Surrey police say when his treatment order runs out, his bail will restrict him from visiting several locations in Redhill.
