"Everyone thought he won't pay...and he can't pay"

Sarah Walker

Available for over a year

Imagine losing one point four million pounds on a single bet and then, instead of cutting your losses, heading straight back to the race course to win it all back. That was the moment that bookie Gary Wiltshire lost everything at Ascot Racecourse twenty three years ago. He told Sarah Walker more about the lowest moment in his career. Gary Wiltshire, Bookmaker: "I was winning going into the last race, Frankie had six winners and I was winning... then there was a horse and you could lay it at 4-1... I was laying in the end at 2-1. "I got carried away and I lost £1.4 million in one afternoon. "The worst thing that happened to me was that nobody had a bet with me that Sunday."
