Fair Isle’s Bird Observatory attracts large numbers of visitors every year, and although there are other places to stay, it provided the main accommodation for birders. BBC Scotland's former Environment Correspondent Louise Batchelor was, until fairly recently, involved with the charitable trust who own it.
