Why are avocados so popular?

The Food Chain

Available for over a year

Humans have been eating avocados since around 10,000 BC, according to some archaeologists. But in recent years, demand has rocketed - according to the UN's food and agriculture organisation, between 2010 and 2016 global imports grew by around 120%. Xavier Equihua, CEO of the World Avocado Organization, explains how he promotes the fruit across the globe. Image: A ripe avocado. Credit: BBC
