Ex-Weymouth Carnival queen rallies support for axed festival

Steve Harris

Available for over a year

A former Weymouth Carnival queen says it's "not the end of the road" for the festival. She's called on people to pledge their support so the event can continue, saying 'there are too many armchair critics that will never come and help us'. The - now former - carnival chair issued a statement saying the carnival had ceased trading as it doesn't have the money to continue. The announcement was widely met with sadness. The statement focused on what it calls "a distinct lack of volunteers". Steve Harris spoke to Gina Hartley, who went on to help organise the event in the years after being carnival queen.
