Bus drivers complain that junction improvement is worse

Steve Harris

Available for over a year

Dorset County Council commissioned the scheme to improve safety; firstly, to reduce the speed of traffic approaching the junction between the A351 from Swanage and the B3069 to Langton Matravers in both directions, and secondly, to make the junction safer for pedestrians. However, bus drivers say it's now almost impossible for longer vehicles to turn left, adding that the rear of vehicles block the opposite carriageway, Drivers also pointed out that vehicles are now required to mount the kerb and traverse one of the newly introduced islands during a turning manouevre. The Managing Director of More Bus Andrew Wickham said "it looks like consultation was missed". The Council has agreed to work with the bus company and say any problems will be looked at during an upcoming audit.
