Loud cheers in the Commons as MPs put pressure on government to reform NI's abortion laws and same sex marriage

The Nolan Show

Available for over a year

There were loud cheers in the House of Commons as MPs voted to support an amendment to put pressure on the government to reform Northern Ireland's laws on abortion and same sex marriage. The Northern Ireland Bill was debated at Westminster yesterday evening. It doesn't end the near total ban on abortion or end the ban on same-sex marriage. Instead it focuses on issuing guidance to increase accountability of the Northern Ireland Secretary over her role in ensuring human rights compliance. BBC NI political editor Mark Devenport sets the story out for us, and Stephen got the views of pro life campaigner Bernie Smyth and Grainne Teggart from Amnesty International.
