'They will give me white solutions for my black problems'

The Food Chain

Available for over a year

Kagiso Matlala is a 26-year-old writer and blogger based in Johannesburg in South Africa. When she developed an eating disorder after being sexually abused, she had no idea what was happening to her. Until then, having an eating disorder was 'what happened to white people'. She tells Emily Thomas about the alienation she felt as a black woman with an eating disorder, and why the treatment available for her in South Africa did not feel appropriate.
