Could Northern Ireland see a return to 50/50 police recruitment to increase the number of Catholic officers joining the force? 7 years on after the practice ended and Catholic recruits have stalled at 30%. 50/50 recruitment was, of course, used to correct an imbalance in the police which grew over the Troubles. But some unionist politicians criticised the practice as being discriminatory towards protestants.
