The cross party social metrics commission says we need to change the way we calculate poverty because the current definition ignores the true scale of high living costs. Once you take child care, housing costs and the costs of a disabled adult or child into account, nearly a third of children – around 4.5 million – are living in poverty. The Children’s Society says urgent action is needed and joins us to explain why.
