Spending connected with Ramadan in the UK has reached about £200 million a year, according to new market research. Some brands like Mac cosmetics and Godiva chocolates have recognised the potential of what’s called the Muslim pound by releasing products specifically for Ramadan. Some of the big supermarkets are running promotions and discounts on popular foods. Morrisons is even selling an advent-style Ramadan countdown calendar. Shari Vahl talks to Shelina Janmohamed, from the Islamic branding consultancy Ogilvy Noor, and author of a book called Generation M: Young Muslims changing the world.
