In addition to being a respected commentator on Middle East conflict, Dr Clonan is a campaigner for the rights of the disabled in Ireland and wrote an explosive thesis on gender equality in the Irish armed forces which almost wrecked his reputation until he was vindicated by an Irish inquiry.
