Ethiopian treasures to be returned - on loan

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

More than 10 years ago Ethiopia launched a formal claim to get back some of its precious treasures looted by the British soldiers during the battle of Maqdala over 150 years ago. The aim was to have this returned back to Ethiopia. Instead they are still in the UK, and now some of the artefacts have just gone on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, with hints they might soon be on their way home to Ethiopia - on loan. The BBC Africa editor Mary Harper went to see the exhibition. (Photo: A Crown, made in Ethiopia around 1740, made of gold and gilded copper with glass beads. Credit: Getty Images)
