Why designer outlet villages are booming

Radio 4 in Four

Available for over a year

While the traditional high street has struggled since the crash, designer outlet villages like the ones in Bicester, Ashford, Swindon and Ellesmere Port have been booming. The idea is a simple one: sell luxury designer products at sale prices. Last year shoppers spent £2.6 billion in outlet villages, that was 2% of all spending on anything other than food. Kevin Mosely reports. First broadcast on You & Yours, 30 October 2017.
