Hunt promises 'to do something' on 'huge' £1/3bn bid for new A&E unit for Epsom & St Helier
Breakfast on BBC Radio SurreyAvailable for over a year
Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt has told BBC Surrey he wants to "do something" about a bid from Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust for a new A&E facility. The trust's chief executive wants to build a £1/3bn acute care unit and has warned existing buildings are not fit-for-purpose clinically or financially. Mr Hunt tells BBC Surrey St Helier "needs a lot of work" and that the upcoming budget would include a big capital expansion of the NHS. He also says he wants assurances about services for patients in Surrey after a sexual health clinic at St Peter's hospital in Chertsey closed on Sunday. And he is calling for accommodation for nurses to be built next to the Royal Surrey in Guildford.
