6: A home from home

A German bomb destroys Nicky’s house, and it's feared everyone has been killed. Chas rushes to see if Fortress Caparetto has been damaged and discovers Nicky hiding there, shaken but alive. The children decide not to tell the authorities Nicky’s alive, and Nicky and Clogger begin living secretly in the Fortress.
