Usually, when listening to something carefully you’ll look at that thing too. But, there are many instances in day-to-day life when our ears and eyes are not aligned. Driving and listening to the radio, eavesdropping on conversations, or even simply when crossing the road. Ulrich Pomper from the Ear Institute at UCL has been investigating the effects on our brain’s ability to concentrate and perceive sounds when we aren’t looking at their source.
