Why Did Outlook Interview A Rapist?

Over to You

Available for over a year

BBC Outlook is the home of extraordinary stories with a global perspective but one interview broadcast on the 21 July prompted Helen from Tanzania to accuse the programme of normalising rape. The interview was with Thordis Elva - who was raped at the age of 16 - and the perpetrator, Tom Stranger. June Christie, the producer on that particular item addresses Helen’s claims and tells Rajan Datar more about the rigorous decision making process she went through before putting it to air. Also, in new feature How I Hear It, Katherine from New Zealand becomes the first listener to spell out what she thinks of the BBC World Service - the best and worst bits, how it portrays her country and, who from the network she would most like as a dinner guest.
