"Iceland has a high fertility rate anyway"

Anne Diamond

Available for over a year

Hospitals in Iceland have reported a huge increase in the number of babies being born, nine months after the country knocked England out of the European Football Championships. Ridhi Kashyap - Demographer from Oxford University: "In some senses it can be policy induced. "This example is a good one, as Iceland has a small population - and these kind of small events can cause quite an uptake that's quite significant and noticeable. "In 2006 when Germany hosted the world cup...there was a 30% increase in birthrates in Germany."
