China to Build Giant New City

World Business Report

Available for over a year

According to plans unveiled by the Chinese government, The New Economic Zone of Xiongan will cover two thousand square kilometres and house a host of facilities relocated from Beijing - including markets, schools, research institutions and hospitals. We ask independent Chinese economist Andy Xie if the country really needs another major metropolis? Meanwhile, US president Donald Trump has sent a lot of antagonism China's way both before and after he took office. Now the president has warned that the US might act alone in tackling the nuclear threat from China's troublesome ally North Korea - if Beijing refuses to help. We interview Lionel Barber, editor of the Financial Times. Picture: Buildings are seen under construction in Macau. Photo credit: Anthony Wallace/AFP/Getty Images.
