Reading FC: McShane says players downed tools

Weekend Kick-Off

Available for over a year

McShane says Royals finished the way they did last season because of players giving up. In a frank interview with BBC Radio Berkshire's Ady Williams, the Royals Captain thinks he can pin down why the Royals fell so far down the Championship table last season. "I think when we went out of the cup against Palace, people downed tools," McShane admitted. "People looked at the league and thought 'We can't get into the playoffs', but that was ruled out too quickly. "When we went out of the cup, people just weren't interested...players just seemed to down tools." McShane added that this season the mentality has all changed. "The gaffer has a philosophy and he is sticking to it, and everyone is on the same wavelength. "The mentality is much better this year, and the people the manager has brought in as well, they've really added to it."
