Lettuce shortage hits Berkshire

Tony Blackburn on BBC Radio Berkshire

Available for over a year

Shiplake chef Liam Scotman says we need to eat seasonal as bad weather hits the Spanish crop of some of our favourite vegetables, including lettuce. Liam Scotman, Chef at Orwells Restaurant in Shiplake: "We have become a nation of convenience shoppers, you can find strawberries and asparagus all year round. As a chef...we would never ever put anything that isn't in season on our menu. "We're being told not to order cauliflowers, broccoli and parsnips. "I know you can go to the supermarket and get asparagus from Peru, and we'd never ever do that. Here at the restaurant we use celeriac...it's a phenomenal vegetable."
