Oxford United boss Michael Appleton linked with vacant England Under 21 job

BBC Oxford News

Available for over a year

Michael Appleton says no approach has been made by the FA for him to take over as England's U-21 manager, but the Oxford United boss stopped short of ruling himself out of the job if there was interest. The current odds on the U's head coach replacing Gareth Southgate dropped yesterday and he is now the favourite with several bookmakers. Appleton told BBC Radio Oxford today that he has not applied for the role and the links are speculation, but he admitted it a job with obvious prestige.
