George Michael: When China woke up to Wham!

Newshour

Available for over a year

Chinese fans are remembering the groundbreaking visit of George Michael, who has died at the age of 53, and his band Wham! in 1985. The duo became the first Western pop act to play in China, as the country was just opening up to the outside world following the tumultuous Cultural Revolution. Martin Lewis produced a documentary about their tour and told Newshour's Razia Iqbal how people in China reacted. (Image: George Michael (left) and Andrew Ridgeley visiting the Great Wall.
